Kampala Hills and attractions to look out for on a Kampala tour

Kampala is Uganda’s national and commercial capital bordering Lake Victoria, Africa’s largest lake. Located in Central Uganda, Kampala is the most populous town in the country. In this downtown area, the Uganda Museum explores the country’s tribal heritage through an extensive collection of artifacts. On nearby Mengo Hill is Lubiri Palace, the former seat of the Buganda Kingdom.

Traditionally, Kampala was a city of 7 hills, but over time it has come to have a lot more. Kampala was initially built on seven hills, now it has spread over 20 hills and villages.

The original seven hills are:

  • Mengo
  • Lubaga
  • Namirembe
  • Kibuli
  • Kololo
  • Nakasero
  • Old Kampala

The other hills include Kibuli, Muyenga (Tank) hill, Nsambya, Mutundwe, Mulago, Buziga, Naguru to mention but a few.

A tour around Kampala takes you to the cultural, historical and religious sites and structures, monuments, shopping centers, and local markets as well as meeting with other tourists and Ugandan citizens as they go about daily life or work schedules.
